Water Footprint

The water collected is treated while its quality is regularly checked by our internal laboratory both from a chemical-physical and microbiological point of view; the waste water is instead treated on site through a biological purification plant.

Objective: Calculating the water footprint of the entire Organization
Method: O-LCA (Organization Life Cycle Assessment), Water Footprint
Reporting unit: Cosmoproject S.p.A. organization
Reporting period: 2020
Reference flow: all the items produced by the Cosmoproject organization in the year 2020, divided into the macro-categories of products representing the entire production.

Carbon Footprint

With the Organisation Carbon Footprint, Cosmoproject has measured the direct and indirect GHG emissions associated with its operations along the entire value chain, from the production and transportation of raw materials to the distribution of finished products, also integrating all the components related to energy use, the mobility of goods and people and the management of waste produced.

Objective: Calculating the Carbon footprint of the entire Organisation
Method: O-LCA (Organization Life Cycle Assessment), Carbon Footprint
Reporting unit: Cosmoproject S.p.A. organisation
Reporting period: 2022-2023
Reference flow: all the items made by Cosmoproject organisation in the year 2022 and 2023.

Study results

Water Footprint

In order to present the results obtained in terms of impact analysis on water availability and quality, the following impact categories have been considered in the study:

Impact categoryUnit of measurementOverall value
Water scarcityEquivalent m33,65E+08
AcidificationEq kg SO22,26E+05
EutrophicationEq kg PO438,98E+04

Excluding the use phase, which is outside the organization control, the impact is equal to approximately 24 million m3 eq, which corresponds to the water footprint necessary to satisfy the water needs of an urban center in Italy with 11,100 equivalent inhabitants.

Carbon Footprint

The study includes the impact generated by GHG emissions divided as follows:

  • Scope 1: Direct emissions from the use of fuels and from the leakage of fluorinated gases from cooling systems;
  • Scope 2: Indirect GHG emissions linked to the purchase of energy outside the Organization (Electricity);
  • Scope 3: Emissions linked to the production of purchased goods and their transport, mobility of personnel and business trips, impact generated by the management of waste produced and emissions linked to the transport of finished products to the “gate” of the destination site (customer, distributor, warehouse, etc.)

Category Ton CO2 eq 2022Ton CO2 eq 2023
Scope 1448,9552,7
Scope 2848,7629,8
Scope 311.586,812.108,7
TOTAL12.884,413.291,2

The result highlights that over 90% of Cosmoproject’s GHG emissions (scope 3) are attributable to the indirect impact mainly linked to the supply and distribution chain.
